A single phase alternator with single bearing design is made for direct flange coupling to the engine. The engine’s own bearing carries the rotor load, which removes the need for a second bearing on the alternator end. This makes the assembly shorter, lighter, and mechanically simpler. If you’re building a close-coupled genset set where engine and alternator are mounted on the same base frame, a single bearing is usually the right choice.

Q2. Is copper winding really worth the difference?

Yes – and the gap shows over time, not on day one. A copper-wound single-phase alternator runs cooler under the same load compared to an aluminium-wound unit. That directly means longer insulation life, fewer rewinding jobs, and lower long-term maintenance costs. We only use copper across our entire alternator range for this reason.
